Police Caught Spears Speeding And Driving Erratically

Britney Spears was arrested late Wednesday night in Southern California on suspicion of driving under the influence after authorities received reports of a vehicle speeding and weaving between lanes on the 101 South near Westlake Village. Witness accounts and 911 dispatch audio describe the vehicle swerving in and out of traffic, raising safety concerns.

Law enforcement officials say Spears, 44, was pulled over around 9:30 PM. The popstar was taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol. Following the arrest, Spears was transported to a nearby hospital so medical staff could draw blood to determine her blood alcohol content as part of the investigation.

She was released early Thursday morning under a cite-and-release procedure, meaning she was issued a citation and allowed to leave custody pending her court appearance on May 4.

A representative for Spears issued a statement describing the incident as “completely inexcusable” and noted that Spears intends to cooperate with authorities and address the matter as required.

Spears’ Past Issues With Substance Abuse And Mental Health Struggles

Spears has previously spoken about her struggles with substance use and mental health. In her 2023 memoir, “The Woman In Me,” the singer revealed that she misused Adderall during earlier periods of her career, describing how the stimulant affected her mood and behavior.

She wrote, “Adderall made me high, yes, but what I found far more appealing was that it gave me a few hours of feeling less depressed. It was the only thing that worked for me as an antidepressant, and I really felt like I needed one of those. I never had an interest in hard drugs.”

Spears also wrote about the pressures of fame and how they contributed to periods of instability in her life. Over the years, and while under the conservatorship of her father, Jamie Spears, she completed two stints in rehab and participated in an Alcoholics Anonymous support group.

Spears said that one of the times she was sent to rehab was because people close to her believed the over-the-counter energy supplements she was taking were negatively affecting her mental health, despite being legal stimulants.

This situation highlights the complex challenges many people face when dealing with both substance use and mental health issues, as well as the importance of finding effective treatment.
