Kristen Fuller, MD

Kristen Fuller, MD, earned her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, her medical degree from Saba University School of Medicine, and completed her Family Medicine Residency at the University of Tennessee in Memphis.

During this time, Dr. Fuller recognized a critical gap in patient education regarding mental health and addiction medicine. Early in residency, she encountered patients with complex medical conditions yet noticed that few medical professionals addressed their quality of life or mental health. She devoted many hours each week to working with patients who were severely depressed, suicidal, struggling with heroin addiction, and enduring some of the darkest moments of their lives.

Dr. Fuller views addiction and mental health disorders as diseases, not life choices. She believes that effective treatment must begin with education, a step that is often overlooked in exam rooms, emergency departments, and hospitals. Motivated by this gap, she began educating both the public and her patients about mental health and substance use early in her career by contributing to online platforms that focused on these issues.

After years of practicing medicine in emergency rooms and urgent care settings and witnessing the profound toll of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Fuller discovered her passion had shifted from bedside medicine to mental health advocacy. She believes that the written word is one of the most powerful tools for change.

Today, she uses her voice as a writer, her experience as a physician, and her dedication to mental health and addiction medicine to break down stigma and educate the public on topics too often left unspoken.
